The 2014 Melodia del Vino festival is opening with a sold-out first night concert. All 400 tickets for the inaugural concert of this international classical music festival at Cantina Antinori in the Chianti Classico region have been sold.

The evening event at Bargino on Thursday 26th June wil begin at 6pm with a guided tour of the estate and wine cellar, followed at 7pm by a chance to sample Antinori wines (Pèppoli Chianti Classico DOCG 2011 and Scabrezza Toscana IGT 2013). The wines will be accompanied by a buffet including: a selection of pecorino cheeses and chutneys, Tuscan bread and flat bread (‘schiacciata’) and several types of Tuscan ham, traditional and fennel salami, as well as toasted bread drizzled with olive oil (‘fettunta’) and bruschetta.

The very best in music, architecture and wine, but also 100% locally sourced Tuscan produce. These are the key concepts behind the 2014 Melodia del Vino Festival, the fourth annual edition of this international classical music festival. The emphasis on top quality wine and food at the festival is underlined by the festival’s links to FISAR (the Italian Federation of Sommeliers, Hoteliers and Restauranteurs), the Tuscan Bread Consortium and the region-wide project, Vetrina Toscana.

The concert at Cantina Antinori will begin at 8.30pm. There will be performances from Marc Laforet (who will temporarily step out of his role of artistic director) and Sergej Krylov, one of the greatest violinists of our time.

There are still tickets available for the other evenings during the festival. After Cantina Antinori, the next event will be held on 28th June at Cantina Petra near Suvereto (Livorno), organised by Mario Botta. On 1st July, Melodia del Vino will be coming to the Siena area – specifically to Castello Banfi in Montalcino. Festival organisers are deeply grateful to the Mariani family for allowing part of the festival to be held here for the fourth consecutive year. On 3rd June a concert is planned in the stunning Grosseto region, at Tenuta Rocca di Montemassi in Roccastrada. The next evening event will also be held in this area, with a concert at Tenuta Rocca di Frassinello – in a wine cellar designed by Renzo Piano – in Gavorrano on 5th July. The 2014 festival comes to a close on 6th July at the Residenza Napoleonica Villa S.Martino in Portoferraio on Elba Island. This concert is part of local celebrations marking the two-hundred year anniversary of Napoleon’s arrival on the island.

Tickets for all the festival events can be booked both on the official festival website (melodiadelvino.it) and also at any one of the 100 BoxOffice stores across Tuscany. It’s also possible to book online through BoxOffice on boxol.it/MelodiaDelVino. Tickets can be bought right up to the last minute, where there is availability.

For 6th July only, tickets can also be purchased directly at the concert in Villa S.Martino.
